"I bought a Shindaiwa 488 chainsaw for use in my scrub control business. The chainsaw, when introduced to me, made me hesitant as I was not familiar with its brand. I was working in isolated areas and was using other commonly known brands. At about 1000 hours these other brands would collapse and cease operating.
When this last occurred, I was unable to procure the same brands and reluctantly purchased the Shindaiwa 488. The agents who sold me this chainsaw gave it a high recommendation so I decided to see how long it would last.
My business has a total of 32 chainsaws and scrub-cutters. I allocated the Shindaiwa chainsaw to one of my New Zealand employees who had spent many years with other brands of saws in the forests of New Zealand. I asked him to continually work is as I wished to assess its performance.
The chainsaw worked an average of 6 hours a day, six days a week in extreme heat in summer (eg. Burke, Cobar, Walgett areas). The Shindaiwa 488 chainsaw performed exceedingly well in the heat and cold equally.
The Shindaiwa 488 chainsaw operated without fault for approximately 4800 hours, with the exceptions of drive sockets, chains and bars, and only failed due to operator error in using incorrect fuel mixture.
During the period that I was assessing this chainsaw, I had decided to purchase as addition 21 saws of the same model and the 577 model due to my level of satisfaction with its ongoing performance.
I have no hesitation to recommend these Shindaiwa chainsaws to anybody.
I have also sold this Shindaiwa chainsaws second hand to people and to my knowledge they are still performing well.
I am more than willing to provide names and contact number ( that I still have available) of people who have bought some of my second hand Shindaiwa chainsaws.
I still use a 488 and 577 Shindaiwa chainsaw for my personal use in my retirement."
